What you don’t see behind the scenes… ❤️

Sometimes people see Make New Friends today and see an Award Winning Friendship Community. They see the meet ups , the friendships, the women coming together and the community we’ve created. But they don’t always see where it all started.Make New Friends was born from a very personal place, from my story and my mum’s story, and from experiences that shaped me in ways I never could have imagined. My mum played a huge part in my life and in the journey that eventually led us to creating this community. Losing her changed me profoundly, and navigating life, grief and everything that came with it has brought its own challenges and trauma. But somehow, through all of that, something beautiful came from the difficult parts of my story.A desire to create somewhere women could come together.Somewhere they could feel safe. Seen. Heard. Accepted.A place where nobody should have to feel alone. And that little idea has grown into something I could never have imagined seven years ago.Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to inspire other women to create friendship communities of their own. Some have been members of Make New Friends, while others have simply followed our journey and seen what we’ve built. And genuinely, I think that’s wonderful. If seeing Make New Friends has encouraged someone else to bring women together and create opportunities for friendship, connection and belonging, then that is something I’m proud of.But there is one thing I would always say to anyone thinking about starting a community:Please don’t underestimate what it takes to build something people trust. From the outside, a friendship group can look simple.Set up a page. Bring people together. Create a few events. But what people don’t see is everything that happens behind the scenes.Make New Friends has taken seven years of hard work, investment, dedication, resilience and an enormous amount of time to become the award winning friendship community it is today. There are websites, hosting, host fees, technology, administration, card fees and countless other costs that people simply don’t see.And then there is the biggest investment of all:Time. If you run a business or a community, you’ll understand that it isn’t 9–5.It’s answering messages while you’re away. It’s sending an email late at night. It’s making the call when you should be switching off. It’s constantly thinking about how you can make things better.Because when you genuinely care about what you’ve created, you don’t simply switch it off at 5pm.And there have been difficult moments too.The criticism. The trolls. The abuse. The tears. The personal challenges. The days when life itself has felt incredibly heavy. But I’ve continued.Because I believe in what Make New Friends stands for.I believe women deserve friendship. They deserve connection. They deserve to feel safe. And they deserve a place where they can be seen and heard. So when you look at Make New Friends today, I hope you see more than just a friendship group.I hope you see seven years of my life poured into something that started from a very personal story.Seven years of learning.Seven years of growing.Seven years of supporting women.Seven years of building trust.Seven years of showing up, even when it was hard. And yes… seven years of tears too. ❤️My mum’s story, my story and everything I’ve experienced along the way will always be part of the reason Make New Friends exists. And perhaps that’s why it means so much to me.Something that came from difficult chapters of my life has grown into something that helps other women write better chapters of theirs. That, to me, is incredibly special.I’m proud of how far I’ve come. And I’m even prouder of the friendships, connections and memories that have been created along the way. This isn’t just something I created. It’s something we’ve built together. And I will always be proud of that. ❤️🫶Lots of Love Michelle xxx ... What you don’t see behind the scenes… ❤️

Sometimes people see Make New Friends today and see an Award Winning Friendship Community.
They see the meet ups , the friendships, the women coming together and the community we’ve created.

But they don’t always see where it all started.
Make New Friends was born from a very personal place, from my story and my mum’s story, and from experiences that shaped me in ways I never could have imagined.

My mum played a huge part in my life and in the journey that eventually led us to creating this community. Losing her changed me profoundly, and navigating life, grief and everything that came with it has brought its own challenges and trauma.

But somehow, through all of that, something beautiful came from the difficult parts of my story.
A desire to create somewhere women could come together.
Somewhere they could feel safe. Seen. Heard. Accepted.
A place where nobody should have to feel alone.
And that little idea has grown into something I could never have imagined seven years ago.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to inspire other women to create friendship communities of their own. Some have been members of Make New Friends, while others have simply followed our journey and seen what we’ve built.

And genuinely, I think that’s wonderful.
If seeing Make New Friends has encouraged someone else to bring women together and create opportunities for friendship, connection and belonging, then that is something I’m proud of.

But there is one thing I would always say to anyone thinking about starting a community:

Please don’t underestimate what it takes to build something people trust.

From the outside, a friendship group can look simple.
Set up a page. Bring people together. Create a few events.
But what people don’t see is everything that happens behind the scenes.

Make New Friends has taken seven years of hard work, investment, dedication, resilience and an enormous amount of time to become the award winning friendship community it is today.

There are websites, hosting, host fees, technology, administration, card fees and countless other costs that people simply don’t see.
And then there is the biggest investment of all:

Time.

If you run a business or a community, you’ll understand that it isn’t 9–5.
It’s answering messages while you’re away.
It’s sending an email late at night.
It’s making the call when you should be switching off.
It’s constantly thinking about how you can make things better.
Because when you genuinely care about what you’ve created, you don’t simply switch it off at 5pm.

And there have been difficult moments too.
The criticism.
The trolls.
The abuse.
The tears.
The personal challenges.
The days when life itself has felt incredibly heavy.
But I’ve continued.
Because I believe in what Make New Friends stands for.
I believe women deserve friendship.
They deserve connection.
They deserve to feel safe.
And they deserve a place where they can be seen and heard.

So when you look at Make New Friends today, I hope you see more than just a friendship group.
I hope you see seven years of my life poured into something that started from a very personal story.
Seven years of learning.
Seven years of growing.
Seven years of supporting women.
Seven years of building trust.
Seven years of showing up, even when it was hard.
And yes… seven years of tears too. ❤️

My mum’s story, my story and everything I’ve experienced along the way will always be part of the reason Make New Friends exists.
And perhaps that’s why it means so much to me.

Something that came from difficult chapters of my life has grown into something that helps other women write better chapters of theirs.

That, to me, is incredibly special.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
And I’m even prouder of the friendships, connections and memories that have been created along the way.
This isn’t just something I created.
It’s something we’ve built together.
And I will always be proud of that. ❤️🫶

Lots of Love
